Keep your rug looking its best with these simple care guidelines.

General Care

• Rotate your rug every 6 months to ensure even wear.
• Avoid direct sunlight, fireplaces and heaters, which can dry and fade natural fibers.
• Every few months, place your rug in indirect sunlight for up to an hour to reduce moisture and bacteria build-up.
• Keep rugs dry and avoid placing them in damp or dark areas.
• Clean hard flooring regularly to prevent dirt being transferred onto your rug.
• Slightly reposition your rug every few months to minimize uneven fading on floors beneath.

Rug Protection

Natural fiber rugs can be professionally treated to help resist stains, mold, mildew and fading. Treatment is applied after delivery by an authorized third-party specialist. Contact shop@armadillo-co.com for a recommendation.

Vacuuming

• Vacuum regularly to maintain your rug's appearance and longevity.
• Some shedding is normal with new rugs and will reduce over time.
• Avoid rotating brush or beater-bar vacuum heads where possible.
• Take care when using robotic vacuums, as tassels and long pile may become entangled.

Dry Soiling

Dust, sand and other dry particles are usually removed through regular vacuuming. For a deeper refresh:

• Vacuum the front of the rug.
• Turn it over and vacuum the reverse.
• Vacuum the front again after replacing it.
• Rotate the rug periodically to promote even wear and fading.

Spills

Act quickly:

• Remove excess material with a spoon or dustpan.
• Blot liquids with a clean, colorfast absorbent cloth. Do not rub.
• Apply gentle pressure using a dry absorbent cloth and a weight.
• Dab with clean water as needed.
• Avoid detergents, as residue can attract dirt and damage fibers. Always test any treatment on an inconspicuous area first.

Silk & Linen Rugs

Blot immediately with a clean absorbent cloth and avoid rubbing. For best results, consult a professional rug cleaner.

High-colored Spills & Oil Based Soiling

Do not attempt to treat highly colored or chemical-based spills yourself. Contact a professional rug cleaner immediately.

Professional Cleaning

For long-term care, periodic professional cleaning is recommended. Contact your local Armadillo store for approved cleaning specialists in your area.

Pop-Ups

Occasional loose yarns, known as "pop-ups", are a natural characteristic of handmade rugs. These can be carefully trimmed level with the pile or tucked back into the rug without affecting its integrity.

Shedding

Natural fiber rugs may shed loose fibers during the first months of use. This is normal and will reduce over time with regular vacuuming.
